Area youth ‘Man Up’ to serve holiday meal

Dec. 04, 2012 @ 08:08 PM

Several participants in the Man Up Youth Development Program, with assistance from Janice Hargrove and the congregation at Chosen Generation Church of God, were able to serve a Thanksgiving meal to over 100 people Nov. 21 at the church.
“Man Up” is a non-profit program designed to help the youth of Vance County become productive citizens by providing them positive male role models. The boys are taught the importance of education, responsibility and the role of men in the family and community. Meetings take place twice a month to allow participants discuss the happenings in their lives. The importance of teamwork — both on and off the field — is also stressed.
Other examples of the boys’ activities included car washes and the selling of lunches to raise money for attending different events, such as football camps at local universities. With the Christmas season fast approaching, the boys also decided to support 10 families by donating Christmas gifts to the children.
