Kayla Hawkins, a student at Northern Vance High School, recently spent time at the N.C. House of Representatives, serving as a page. She was sponsored by Nathan Baskerville, N.C. Rep-D (Granville, Vance, Warren).

Her duties consisted of delivering bills and amendments for representative during the daily House sessions and committee meetings, lending her assistance to the offices of individual representatives and running other errands around the Legislature. Like other pages, she spent a week assisting members and staff at the General Assembly while learning about the structure of state government.

Thom Tillis, N.C. Rep-R (Mecklenburg), the speaker of the House, personally appoints the pages. At the start of each week, he introduces them to members and citizens in the House gallery during Monday night’s session.

She is the daughter of William and Bonita Hawkins of Henderson.
