Local afterschool program administrators and staff members may now take advantage of professional development opportunities through Vance-Granville Community College during the spring 2013 semester.

Starting in January, the college will be offering an all-day North Carolina Afterschool Professional Development Competency Training session, “Upping Your Afterschool Game,” on the following dates: Jan. 12, Feb. 9, , March 9 and April 13. Sessions will take place in Room 6115 on the main campus in Vance County. Participants only need to attend one session to earn one Continuing Education Unit.

The Afterschool Professional Development work group, which includes the N.C. Community College System, designed the curriculum used in this program. Jacquelin Heath, the college’s School-Age Education program head, will conduct sessions. The hiring and training of staff will be among the subject covered during the session.

The workshop fee is $25. Pre-registration is encouraged to allow for participants to complete preliminary work prior to the session.
