Starting Monday, South Branch Library will be offering a Baby and Me story time program for parents and babies from birth to two years old.

“Each program will include songs, rhymes, finger plays and gross motor movement, all designed to help our youngest patrons and their caregivers develop the early skills which will lead to successful early literacy,” Deana Cunningham, branch manager, mentioned in a written statement.

According to the Early Education Commission of the United Way, environments which support stimulation and brain development in young children increase the likelihood that they will develop early skills necessary for later success in school and life.

Programs will be offered according to the following schedule:

• Baby and Me — Monday, 10-10:30 a.m.

• Pre-school (ages 3-5) — Tuesday-Wednesday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

• Books and More (grades K-5) — Thursday, 4-5 p.m.

In addition, Pajama Party Story Time allows parents to share in the experience. The theme for the January session, scheduled for Jan. 15, from 7-8 p.m., will be “Winter Wonderland.”

All story times are drop-in and do no require registration with the exception of Pajama Party. Call (919) 528-1752 or stop by the library at 1550 S. Campus Drive to preregister.
