Zeb Vance serves up ‘love’ — in cans

Second graders at Zeb Vance Elementary School recently collected cans of food collected for donation to the annual Salvation Army Canned Food Drive. All 16 schools in the Vance County Public School System participated.

The schools collected food donations for between one and two weeks in late November and early December. Zeb Vance collected a total of 525 items.

The name of a homeroom teacher was placed on the board inside a red heart each time a class collected 10 cans. For each additional 10 cans, a snowflake was added to the board by the heart. All homerooms in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade participated in the donation campaign.

Aycock Elementary School collected the most items: 1,200. The school system’s smallest schools — Carver and New Hope —  managed to collect 769 and 678 items, respectively.
