The Gamma Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society promoting personal and professional growth in women educators and excellence in education, sent six members at the 79th annual Eta State (North Carolina) Convention held April 26-28 at the University Hilton in Charlotte. Attended by 326 delegates from across the state, the convention’s theme was “Transforming Our Traditions.”
During the opening session on April 26, Arlie Honeycutt, Miss North Carolina, discussed the four points of her crown, representing style, service, scholarship and success.
Gamma Chi was presented the Presidential Chapter Achievement Award, receiving a certificate and an engraved crystal vase containing roses. The chapter also earned the Eta State Newsletter Excellence Award and the Eta State Website Excellence Award for accomplishments in producing a quality newspaper and website which enhanced chapter communications.
Attendees took advantage of several workshops held the next day (April 27). Later that evening, the Chapter Presidents Banquet took place, which concluded with the installation of the 2013-2015 Eta State officers.
The Ceremony of Remembrance was held the morning of April 28 in honor of members statewide who died during the previous year. Gamma Chi members recognized Ethel Draper, Betsy Little and Lorraine Porter.
During a brunch concluding the weekend’s activities, Dr. Hanna Fowler, Southeast regional director, provided up-to-date information about society activities. She also urged members to attend the Southeast Regional Conference this summer from July 10-13 in Orlando, Fla.
