Alpha Kappa Alpha: Sorority Nu Chi Omega Chapter reviews achievements of past year
Under the leadership of Teresa Gilreath, president, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Nu Chi Omega Chapter of Oxford/Henderson, recently completed its 2012 year of activities.
The chapter was involved with several community service projects, which included: MLK Day of Service; AKA Goes Red Program; Back Packs for Northern Granville Middle School; World Hungry Day of Service; the donation of over $30,000 in scholarships; Emerging Young Leaders Program; Boys and Girls Clubs (Granville/Vance counties); Community Health Fair, voter registration, Relay for Life (Granville/Vance counties); Susan Komen Race for the Cure Donation; Central Children’s Home Parade; the preparation of care packages for U.S. soldiers, and to Granville Medical Center and Maria Parham Medical Center oncology departments; Emergency Preparedness Project; Back to School Explosion; Area Christians Together in Service; Area Christians in Ministries; clothing closet at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ; Thanksgiving and Christmas food donations; and Granville and Vance county senior citizen centers.
In addition, chapter members also carried out workshops on leadership, mammograms and estate planning.
Chapter members include: Iris Allen, Marcia Allen, Tertia Allen, Sarah Baskerville, Jennette Boyd, Vivian Bullock, Deborah Daye, Dianne Evans, Teresa Gilreath, Glenda Gooch, Carolyn Green, Toni Ranklin-Green, Jackie Harris, LaRhonda Harris, Jessica Haywood, Jackie Heath, Patricia Hester, Shirley Holliday, Lillie A. Moss, Dorothy Perry, April Putney, Monica Satterwhite, Cherrelle Smith, Connetta Terry, Mary Thompson, Carolyn White, Nekisha Williams, Phyllis Williams, Deidre Wilson, Lori Wilson and Shalonda Young.
The sorority was chartered in Oxford in May of 1981.
