Renovations complete at Lakeland; events scheduled
Since the middle of January, volunteers have been working on at total renovation of the main stage of the Mark E. Taylor Theatre at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center in Littleton. The work is now complete.
Work by the volunteers included new carpet, wall treatments and house lights; upgrades to seating, the sound system, and heating and air systems; a rebuilt floor and core structure; and much more.
More than 3,000 hours of labor (most of which came from volunteers) and thousands of dollars in materials (much of which was donated) went into the effort.
Several activities this weekend are scheduled in connection with the completion of this project. An open house will be held today, between 4-8 p.m. Also today, as well as Saturday, the Littleton Idol contest will take place. Proceeds (from seats, at $10 per person) will benefit Donald Thompson (lung cancer) and Brandon Reaves (leukemia), A Chinese auction will coincide with the contest both days; winners of both the competition and the auction will be announced Saturday. Then, on Sunday, Lakeland will host a fundraiser, “Lakeland C.A.R.E.s for John 3:16,” for the John 3:16 Center in Littleton. At $10 per ticket, attendees will enjoy an afternoon of Gospel and Christian music, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
“Anne of Green Gables,” starting April 26, will be the first production staged at the theater since renovations concluded.
