Middleburg Garden Club closes out 2012 on a busy note
The last two plus months have been a busy time for Middleburg Garden Club. Members spent a long time updating the books, following the October district meeting. After all the bills were paid, the excess was distributed equally among the Middleburg, Woodlawn and Little garden clubs.
Bonnie and Jenny Wiggins hosted a meeting Nov. 13 at Middleburg Baptist Church. Members decided to provide items for a Thanksgiving dinner to a needy family within the community and to support them during Christmas. Also, a garden tip was given for November.
In conjunction with other Henderson garden clubs, the Middleburg Garden Club decorated the Perry Memorial Library’s Christmas tree with all natural ornaments on Nov. 27. Members also provided seven poinsettias to the Veterans Hospital.
On Dec. 11, club members provided food for a Christmas luncheon, held at the home of Bonnie Wiggins, which was decorated for Christmas. Wiggins opened with a prayer.
After the luncheon, a garden tip for December was provided. Then business was conducted.
Members brought gifts for a local family and their two children. Members decided to provide a monetary gift to another needy family.
In addition, members also agreed to cover fuel expenses for one of the members in preparation for the district meeting. The club planned to purchase a Christmas wreath from Unique Expressions for the Middleburg Post Office that could be used from year to year. The possibility of providing a planter for the post office with seasonal plants in the spring was discussed. Three meals from the luncheon were taken to shut-ins after the meeting.
