Nominees for Morehead-Cain, Park scholarships announced

Seniors at Southern Vance High School and Northern Vance High School have been nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Park Scholarship to attend North Carolina State University in Raleigh in the fall.

The Morehead-Cain and the Park scholarships are the top academic scholarships awarded by their respective universities. Each scholarship goes toward tuition and attendance fees at those universities for a four-year period.

Students nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship from Southern Vance include Laura Ross and Raheem Williams. Ross is the daughter of Laura Ross of Henderson, and Williams is the son of Sandra Williams of Henderson.

From Northern Vance High School, Ethan Byrom and Sam Long are nominated for both the Morehead-Cain and Park scholarships. Byrom is the son of Doug and Lisa Byrom of Henderson. Long is the son of Nicholas Long and Sharon Long, both of Henderson.

The nominees from Southern Vance for the Park Scholarship are seniors Jonathan Sanders and Ebony Smith. Sanders is the son of Terry and Robin Sanders of Henderson, while Smith is the daughter of Carla Smith of Henderson.
