Boy Scouts of America: Troop 605 presents Eagle Scout Award to Long

Samuel Peter S. Long was presented the Eagle Scout Award on May 19 by Boy Scout Troop 605 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Innocents in Henderson.

Born on Aug. 21, 1995, in Durham, he is the son of Nick Long and Sharon Long.

Long began his Scouting career in 2005 when he joined Troop 630 in Henderson. He was once a member of Troop 39 in Chapel Hill and has been with Troop 605 in Henderson since 2009. He has served as an assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader.

Attending the 2010 National Jamboree with the Occoneechee Council contingent, he served as a patrol scribe of Troop 1910.

For his Eagle project, Long repainted fences surrounding the public tennis courts at Fox Pond Park during September and October of last year.

At Northern Vance High School, Long has lettered in soccer, football, swimming and tennis. Currently ranked third in his class, he will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall.
