Untreated sewage bypassed at 2 locations in Henderson

Jun. 10, 2013 @ 05:41 PM

On Friday, the City of Henderson reported the bypass of untreated sewage, which entered Sandy Creek in the Tar-Pamlico River Basin, at two separate pumping stations.

Between 5:12 and 9:15 p.m., 3,330 gallons of untreated wastewater were bypassed (through a tributary) at the Sandy Creek Sewage Pumping Station, 482 Rock Mill Road, Henderson. And from 5:30-7:30 p.m., an additional 600 gallons were bypassed at Martin’s Creek Sewage Pumping Station, 1416 Rock Mill Road, directly into Sandy Creek.

In both instances, the bypass occurred due to the inflow and infiltration from 2 inches of rainfall. The precipitation exceeded the pumping capacity at both stations.

Tom Spain, director of the Henderson Water Reclamation Facility, is the person to field questions about these matters. He may be contacted at (252) 431-6081.
