On Feb. 11, one day removed from her Henderson Community Concert Association performance at the Vance-Granville Community College civic center, violinist Ann Fontanella presented two mini-concerts at The First Baptist Church in Henderson.

More than 850 area students and teachers (in total between the two shows) witnessed a scaled down version the program she performed the previous evening, “Popular Hits of the Romantic Era.” She focused on shorter pieces, which included melodies that the students might recognize: Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” Paganini’s “24th Capice,” Vieuxtemp’s “Yankee Doodle” and a selection from “The Wizard of Oz.”

Just as she was for civic center performance, Fontanella was provided accompaniment on piano by Zhou Jiang.

The Henderson Community Concert Association has arranged several of these student outreach performance throughout the years. The nonprofit organization seeks to provide quality performances which are affordable to the local community and to expose area youth to great music.
