Savannah State University’s Wesleyan Gospel Choir coming to Shiloh Baptist
Shiloh Baptist Church, 635 College St., Henderson, will welcome the Savannah State University Wesleyan Gospel Choir on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free concert.
Organized in 1971, the choir’s repertoire ranges from the original arrangements of “The Lord’s Prayer” to the contemporary, energetic songs seen performed by many modern artist. Previous directors of the choir have written several original selections.
Shows on the choir’s annual spring tour have included stops along the East Coast, Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, and The Bahamas.
The choir’s history includes performances with the Rev. James Cleveland, the Rev. John P. Kee, Ann Nesby and Dorothy Norwood. Its second place finish at the 2006 National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Gospel Explosion Choir Competition earned the choir an invite to 19th Annual Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Music Industry Retreat in Hollywood, Fla. On March 20, 2007, the choir made its national television debut.
