Churches in Middleburg and the Middleburg Town Council recently hosted a luncheon in the fellowship hall of Middleburg Baptist Church for every staff member at E.O. Young Jr. Elementary School.

This is the sixth consecutive year the luncheon has been held.

The event followed the theme “Survivor-Middleburg.” The fellowship hall was decorated with palm trees, torches, campfires, parrots and other tropical items.

School staff members were divided into teams to take part in “tribal” competitions. Each staff member also received a “survivor” tote bag filled with job related supplies. The bags were donated by the Vance County Farm Bureau. Supplies were donated by area vendors.

A drawing was held to select 12 staff members to receive restaurant gift cards.

Church sponsors donated $1,500 for teachers to purchase additional classroom supplies.

Church partners shared with staff letters of greetings and encouragement from presidents, chancellors and deans of the colleges and universities they attended. The letters are now on the school’s “Wall of Encouragement.”
