Hope program for women scheduled for Oct. 12

A program on hope will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 12, featuring a cancer survivor whose message of faith has drawn national attention.

The program, “Hope: A Morning of Christian Fellowship and Luncheon for Women,” is being hosted by First United Methodist Church.

It will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.

Karen Velasquez will be the guest speaker. Her story has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey show, Dr. Phil, CNN, Nightline and PBS.

Proceeds from the event will be given to Vance County’s Relay for Life.

There will be coffee and sweets starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by the welcome, fellowship and special music by Amber Williamson at 10 a.m. Velasquez will speak from 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m., followed by a dance by high school students from Angie’s Dance Academy that is specially choreographed for the event. A catered luncheon will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event is open to all women.
