Pleasant Grove to welcome seventh-grade Gospel singer
Jonathan Scott Abbott, a 12-year-old Gospel singer from Oxford, will be performing at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Creedmoor on March 24 at 6:30 p.m.
A seventh-grader at Northern Granville Middle School in Oxford, he is the son of Jonathan K. Abbott and Christie Bryant Davis. He has been heavily in influenced by Gaither-style Gospel music, which he was introduced to through DVDs played for him by his great-grandfather. When his grandfather, Keith Abbott, first realized his grandson could sing he began accompanying him on piano. Jonathan soon learned several Gospel songs and began performing at various churches.
While attending Gaitherfest in Myrtle Beach in October of 2011, he met Lynda Randle (a singer who performs with the Gaithers). Upon hearing his recording of her song, “God on the Mountain,” she invited him to perform with her and another Gaither singer, Guy Penrod, at another event the following month.
He entered the SITF Southern Gospel Talent Search in June of 2012. Placing first in the Youth Division, he took him $300 in cash.
He has just recently completed the recording of his first CD.
