Tickets are on sale for the “Hope: A Morning of Christian Fellowship and Luncheon for Women” event hosted by First United Methodist Church.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Karen Velasquez will be the speaker.

Seventeen years ago, Velasquez found a lump on her jaw while on her honeymoon. When she returned home, she was told she had advanced cancer and had less than six months to live. She went through a total of 14 operations and spent more than 22 weeks in the hospital.

She now uses her story to inspire hope in others.

She has appeared on Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil, CNN, Nightline, PBS and the documentary “The Test of Hope.”

She is currently the director of women’s ministries at the Church at LifePark in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased by contacting the church office at (252) 438-8791.
