Making a ‘conscience’ choice for the New Year
“But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.’ ” Ruth 1:16-17
When the New Year comes in, my mind naturally goes to having the opportunity to start over again. I take the opportunity to weigh the highs and lows of the previous years. Then I come to the realization that we are given choices in every aspect of our lives. What we choose will ultimately determine whether we succeed or fail.
For the year 2013, I would like to encourage each individual reading this article to choose God and hold on to him with every fiber of our being because we haven’t seen the worst yet. There will the things happening that we will turn to someone and say, “I can’t believe that happened!”
There will be times when you hear or might be tempted to say, “Where is God while this is happening?” But just know when we choose to serve God, he has promised never leave or forsaken us. Deut. 31:6
This is an important statement that I pray that you will embrace: Know that God will not fail! If God does not help us, we are no good to ourselves, others or this world. Plus he cannot get the glory out of a failed life.
For 2013 there are some important things that we can do to achieve our spiritual goals:
1) Choosing God will mean that you will have to let go of some of the things that you have previously held on to: It might be an addictions to something, friends, or whatever it is that is causing you not to prosper as God intended. Ruth had to leave her family and go to a land that was unfamiliar to her, and serve a God that she hadn’t served before. But somewhere through the years of being a daughter-in-law to Naomi she knew about the true and living God and she was willing to give up everything to serve him.
2) Hold on to God as Jacob did in Genesis 32:26. “I will not let you go until you bless me.” Spend that time with God, cry out to him and in response he will bless you exceedingly above all that you ask or think according to the power that is already working in you. Eph. 3:20
3) Read the Word of God so that you can find everything that you are entitled to and stand on it until God bring it to pass. We have missed it in the area of praying effectively because we are to pray according to God’s will. How will you know his will unless you study his word?
When all is said and done, our Father who is in heaven is the only one that can deliver, heal, prosper, protect, save and do so many other things for us. But we have to make the choice!
