Ayscue, Ragonese receive Glen Raven awards

Vance-Granville Community College employees Melissa Ayscue and Ross Ragonese recently received the Glen Raven Excellence in Teaching and Leadership Awards at the college’s fall convocation.

Ayscue was named Staff Member of the Year for 2013-14. She is the executive assistant for the institutional research and technology division. She has worked at the college since 2005. She received a JobLink excellence award from the N.C. Employment Security Commission as a youth case manager for the Workforce Investment Act department at the college. She has occupied several other roles at the college.

Ragonese was named Faculty Member of the Year. He joined the college as head of the culinary arts program in 2008. He worked as a chef for more than 20 years. He has served as head culinary instructor of the Fletcher Academy in Raleigh.

Both are now eligible to be considered for the N.C. Community College System’s statewide R.J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching and BB&T Staff Person of the Year awards, respectively.

Glen Raven, Inc. sponsors the annual stipends to recognize VGCC instructors and staff members. The manufacturer has also endowed several scholarships for students.
