Starting today, Kristen Lawrence, a rising senior at Southern Vance High School, will attend the N.C. Governor’s School East program. Her area of concentration during her time there will be natural science.

Through July 20, she will join other academically accomplished high school students throughout the state for this five-week, residential summer program. Some, like her, will travel to Meredith College in Raleigh, while others will attend Salem College in Winston-Salem.

This year, Lawrence has the distinction of being the only student enrolled in Vance County Schools who will participate in the program.

She is the daughter of Scott and Felicia Lawrence of Henderson.
