John R. Hawkins High School Class of ’53 celebrates 50th reunion

The John R. Hawkins High School Class of 1953 recently held its 50th reunion banquet on Friday, Aug. 30, at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center.

John Fitts and Viola Watson Bullock were the event’s coordinators.

Members who planned the event were Carolyn Seward Andrews, Willie B. Mayfield Flythe, Herman Alston, Alexander Alston, Barbara Perry Alston, Clifton Bullock, Harold Bullock, William Crews, Kenneth Davis, James Dunson, Evelyn Henderson Goolsby, Emma Ingram Johnson, Johnnie Jones, Nancy Burnette Lancaster, Willie Perry, Emily Russell Robinson, Wilson Williams and Alfred Wright.

Honorary committee members were Henry Andrews, Mary Fitts and Martin Lancaster.

A dance followed the banquet.

On Saturday, Aug. 31, A breakfast was held at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Henderson.

More than 40 members of this class and their guests were present for the John R. Hawkins Alumni and Friends Inc., 40th reunion banquet held the same day.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, members of the class, along with their spouses and friends, worshiped with two classmates, William Crews and Alfred Wright, and the national president at Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton.
