Jessica Ann Powell weds Scott Daniel Dennis
Miss Jessica Ann Powell and Scott Daniel Dennis were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, June 29, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Atlanta, Ga.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin William Powell of Norcross, Ga., and the granddaughter of Mr. William J. Powell and the late Mrs. Betty J. Powell of Endicott, N.Y., and the late Mr. Max T. Chatman and Mrs. Ruth W. Keister of Albany, Ga.
Dr. and Mrs. William Austin Dennis of Henderson are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Mrs. William B. Dennis and the late Mr. Dennis and of the late Mr. Glenn Long and Mrs. Connie Medlin, all of Henderson.
Rev. Jeffery M. Ott, presiding minister of the church, assisted by Dr. Paul A. Baxley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Athens, Ga., performed the double ring ceremony.
Music was provided by Dr. Kevin Johnson, minister of music, and the church choir.
Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore an off-white a-line tulle gown with Chantilly lace and silver and white beaded application.
She carried a bouquet of white hydrangeas tied with green ribbon.
The matron of honor was Judith Chapman Nash, aunt of the bride. Bridesmaids were Katie Blair Kirillov, Rachel Nicole Litsky, Ashley Aunita Prebula Frazier, friends of the bride; Kimberly Lorraine Powell, cousin of the bride; and Erin Sidebottom Dennis, sister-in-law of the bride.
The father of the groom served as his best man. Groomsmen were Austin McIver Dennis and Steven Baker Dennis, both brothers of the groom, and Jason William Powell, the bride’s brother. Ushers were Anthony Wayne Bunch, Michael Philip Cowherd, William Brent Curtis, Cameron Scott Falkner, Richard Andrew Flye, Patrick Thomas Jarrell, Nathaniel Edwin Meiggs, Charles Hunter Roberson, Lennie Lee Swanson and AtLee Taylor Darr Watson.
Following the ceremony, parents of the bride hosted a wedding reception with a buffet dinner at the “Trolley Barn” in Atlanta. Guests danced to the music of “Mr. Potato Head.”
The day before the wedding the bride’s mother, Mrs. Kevin W. Powell, honored the bride and her bridesmaids with a bridal luncheon at the Livingston Restaurant on Peachtree Street in Atlanta.
On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents honored the couple with a rehearsal dinner at The Marianna in Atlanta. The dinner was followed by an evening of entertainment for the wedding party and out of town friends by blues musician, James Johnson, also known as “Super Chikan,” of Clarksdale, Miss.
On the morning of the wedding, the groom’s extended family hosted a breakfast buffet for the wedding guests at the Collage Restaurant in the Sheraton Hotel.
A cocktail buffet honoring Scott and Jessica was held on April 20 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Mills, given by friends of the groom and his family.
Two bridal showers were given, a miscellaneous shower by Jessica Earnest of Birmingham, Ala., and Whitney Nash of Woodstock, Ga., and a kitchen/recipe shower by Ashley Frazier and Mary Prebula of Duluth, Ga., friends of the bride and groom.
A luncheon was given in honor of the bride by Katie Kirillov and Susan Brown of Norcross, Ga.
A dinner was given in honor of the bride by her co-workers in Boston, Mass. She was presented with crystal champagne flutes.
An engagement party was given by Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Nash, aunt and uncle of the bride, in January in Roswell, Ga.
The bride is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is attending graduate school at Duke University in the Fuqua School of Business.
The groom is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. In May he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.
The couple will live in Durham.
