The Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249 of Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons recently awarded William C. Rogers Scholarships to Tiarra L. Mosley and Jonathan R. Sanders.

Mosley graduated from Northern Vance High School. She is pursuing a nursing degree from Lenoir Rhyne University.

Sanders is a graduate of Southern Vance High School. He is pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering from UNC Charlotte.

Lamont Noel, sitting worshipful master of the lodge, and scholarship committee chair Dale Ivery presented the scholarships.

The William C. Rogers Scholarship is given in honor of William C. Rogers, a past master of Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249. The scholarship was endowed by the lodge in 1998. Each scholarship is worth $500. Applications to receive the scholarship are accepted each fall. A committee then rates applicants based on scholastic excellence, high school recommendation, community service and personal references.
