Six presented at Nu Chi Omega debutante pageant
The Nu Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., recently presented its 10th Biennial Debutante Pageant at Northern Granville Middle School in Oxford.
The event was entitled, “Pearls of Promise.”
Six young ladies were introduced at the event.
Nathan Baskerville presided over the program.
Timothy Johnson presented a musical medley while Phyllis Williams gave the official greeting.
LaRhonda Harris and Deborah Daye introduced the mothers, marshals and escorts.
Prayer was offered by Lillie A. Moss, chapter captain.
In a segment entitled “Expressions,” each debutante showcased a special talent.
Layquana Etheridge, student at North Carolina Central University, and the Oak Grove Liturgical Dancers provided entertainment.
Kendra Bryanna Simmons was crowned Miss Debutante 2013 by Shanice Green, Miss Debutante 2011. Simmons is a junior at Southern Vance High School and plans to attend Spelman College.
Courtney Juanita Clark, also a junior at Southern Vance High School, was recognized as first runner up. She plans to attend East Carolina University.
Afterward recognition was given, the debutantes, along with their fathers and escorts, entertained the audience with a waltz and swing medley.
The evening ended with a reception.
The following young women were presented: Alexis Bass, daughter of Natalie Bass and Tyronza Hicks of Oxford, escorted by Dominque Brodie; Chantel Bryant, daughter of Karen Cedillos and Edwin Bryant of Henderson, escorted by John Alvarez; Courtney Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Avant of Henderson, escorted by Tederal Monroe Harris Jr.; Kendra Bryanna Simmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Simmons of Henderson, escorted by Jamal Williams; Anissa Williams, daughter of Angela P. Williams and the late Eric M. Williams of Henderson, escorted by Stanton Fields; and Taylor Elizabeth Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lavel Young of Henderson, escorted by Miles Clark.
Each debutante will receive a scholarship to assist with college expenses.
