Martha Ann Ellis weds Henry Wesley Hight III

Martha Ann Ellis and Henry Wesley Hight III, both of Telluride, Colo., were united in marriage on May 11, 2013, at 5 o’clock p.m. at The Inn At Half Mile Farm in Highlands, North Carolina. The Rev. Frank Compton Ellis, uncle of the bride, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Martha Foster Sullivan, and the step-daughter of Mr. Edwin Hoke Sullivan, of Montgomery, Ala. She is also the daughter of Mr. Richard Michael Ellis, and the step-daughter of Mrs. Janet Givhan Ellis of Prattville, Ala. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Martha Thompson Foster of Montgomery and the late Richard Alonza Foster and of Mr. Frank Compton Ellis of Prattville, and the late Mrs. Gertrude Eatman Ellis.

She is a graduate of Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery, and received a bachelor of science degree in interior design from Auburn University, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Currently, she is employed by One Architects in Telluride, Colo.

The groom is the son of The Honorable and Mrs. Henry Wesley Hight Jr. of Henderson. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wesley Hight of Henderson, and the late Anne Alston Malloy Currin and Richard Arthur Malloy, both of Henderson. He is also the step-grandson of the late Dr. Robert Graves Currin.

He is a graduate of Kerr-Vance Academy in Henderson, and received a bachelor of science degree with a double major in marketing and management from the Walker School of Business at Appalachian State University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He is currently employed by the Telluride Tourism Board in Telluride, Colo.

The bride was escorted by her father, and given in marriage by her parents. She wore an ivory silk ball gown with spaghetti straps, a sweetheart neckline and open back. Chiffon and silk taffeta flowers flanked the back of the dress. She wore a Queen Ann Necklace crocheted with mother of pearl beading. She carried a bouquet of pale peach English garden roses, pink and white tea roses, coral peonies, white anemones with navy centers, yellow billy buttons and trailing amaranthus.

Haley Sprague Thompson of Montgomery, Ala., was matron of honor, and Jennifer Glen Bradley of Atlanta, Ga., was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Julia Sims Garcia of Birmingham, Ala., Mary Ellen Hansen of Telluride, Colo., Kate Taylor Harcourt of Auburn, Ala., Alston Hight Shave of Raleigh (sister of the groom), Jennifer Rupp Spahn of Birmingham, Ala., Crystal Luster Strickland of Montgomery, Ala., Ruth Fleming Turpin of Memphis, Tenn., and Emily Alex Kathryn Windham of Montgomery, Ala. Elizabeth Anne Hilley and Katherine Dyer Hilley (step-sisters of the bride), both of Prattville, Ala., were lectors. Ryan Kathryn Flaherty and Graham Foster Flaherty of Louisville, Tenn., cousins of the bride, were flower girl and ring bearer.

Henry W. Hight Jr. was best man. Groomsmen were Michael Garrett Brafford, of Telluride, Colo., Andrew Foster Ellis (brother of the bride) of Prattville, Ala., Richard Andrew Flye of Henderson, Rouslan Jeliazkov Haracherev, of Telluride, Colo., James Sydney Hunt III of Nashville, Tenn., Benjamin Thorne Malloy (cousin of the groom) of Winston Salem, Hartwell Lamar Roberts of Telluride Colo., Kiernan Meredene Shave (brother-in-law of the groom) of Raleigh and Milliard Winston Wester IV of Raleigh. Ushers were John Benjamin Hilley Jr. (stepbrother of the bride) of Prattville, William Patrick Portice of Fort Collins, Colo., Jonathan Morrison Smith of Goldboro, Christopher Andrew Sullivan (stepbrother of the bride) of Nashville, Tenn., and Hoke Turner Sullivan (stepbrother of the bride) of Birmingham, Ala.

Music for the wedding was provided by Amy Brucksch, classical guitarist, and Eben Mann, violinist.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception hosted by the bride’s parents was held at The Inn At Half Mile Farm. A cocktail hour was followed by dinner and dancing. Music for the evening was provided by Second Coming of Montgomery, Ala.

After a honeymoon in Costa Rica, the couple will reside in Telluride, Colo.


Pre-wedding shower/events

An engagement party was held on Dec. 21, 2012, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Stainback in Henderson. Other hostesses were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Behar, Mrs. Sherri Bridgers and Mr. Jack Blackburn, Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Powell, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Tharrington, and Dr. and Mrs. M. W. Wester. III. Cocktails and dinner were served.

A dinner party was held at the Historic Young House in Montgomery, Ala., on Feb. 22, 2013, honoring the couple. Friends of the bride hosted the event.

The bride was entertained at a beach party and shower on the weekend of March 22 in Orange Beach, Ala. The party was hosted by the bridesmaids.

The groom was entertained at a bachelor party by his groomsmen, ushers and friends in Las Vegas, Nev., on the weekend of March 22.

On Friday, May 10, a bridesmaids luncheon honoring the bride was held at On the Verandah in Highlands. The luncheon was hosted by Mrs. Judy Foster Serpente, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Martha Thompson Foster, grandmother of the bride. The bride took this occasion to remember her attendants with gifts.

A golfing event hosted by the groom’s parents was held the morning of May 10 at Highland Falls Country Club. Friends of the bride and groom enjoyed golf and lunch.

On May 10, The Honorable and Mrs. Henry Wesley Hight Jr. parents of the groom, hosted a rehearsal dinner held at the Bascom in Highlands. A dance during the dinner was hosted by friends of the groom, and music was provided by Soul Purpose Band of Atlanta, Ga.
