Amanda Lynn Pritchard and Thomas Leigh Bien III marry

Amanda Lynn “Mandy” Pritchard and Thomas Leigh Bien III were united in marriage during their 3 p.m. ceremony on June 22, 2013, at Apex United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gray Southern officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Pritchard Jr. of Mount Airy. She is the granddaughter of Mr. John L. Grissom Sr. and the late Mrs. Grissom of the Epsom community and the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Richard Pritchard Sr. of Henderson.

She is a graduate of Mount Airy High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mrs. Bien teaches fourth grade at Kingswood Elementary School in Cary.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Bien Jr. of Greensboro. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Bien Sr. of Baltimore and the late Mr. and Mrs. John H. Cain of Grange, Ga.

Mr. Bien is a graduate of Greensboro’s Grimsley High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a software engineer with IBM in the Research Triangle Park.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a white off-the-shoulder side draped satin A-line gown with chapel train. Her matching white veil, pearl earrings, and grandmother’s pearls completed the ensemble.

She carried a European handtied bouquet of white daisies, purple larkspur, lisianthus, and moon carnations wrapped with purple satin along with a small Bible.

Casey Purdy of Apex, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Julia Bien, sister of the groom, and Erin Ringrose, both of Greensboro. Meredith Purdy and Eleanor Purdy, both nieces of the bride, were the flower girls.

Assisting as best man was Rex Lake of Berkeley, Calif. The groomsmen were Lateef Livers of Greensboro and Karl Hess of Falls Church, Va.

A program of wedding music was provided by Joette Winberry, organist, and Phil Herold, trumpeter.
Debbie Wrenn directed the wedding while Jane LaPrade served as register attendant.

Immediately following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the church’s Crossroads area. Marilyn Wienand entertained on the harp. Servers were Miriam Grissom of Pinetops and Debbie Grissom of Lumberton, aunts of the bride.

The couple will reside in Cary following their wedding trip to England, Scotland and Wales.

Pre-wedding showers/events

On Friday, June 21, the groom’s parents hosted a dinner at Tyler’s in Apex immediately following the wedding rehearsal at the church.

In June, a bridesmaids dinner was held at M’Coul’s Public House in Greensboro.

Also in June, a bridal shower was given by the bride’s co-workers from Kingswood Elementary School.

In May, a couples kitchen shower was given by Casey and Jason Purdy at their home in Apex.
