On April 25, 1953, following his return from the Korean War, William Burroughs and Mildred Strickland married at Rehoboth Methodist Church in Vance County. In honor of their 60th wedding anniversary, 21 family members recently gathered at the House of Ribeyes.
Starting today, Kristen Lawrence, a rising senior at Southern Vance High School, will attend the N.C. Governor’s School East program. Her area of concentration during her time there will be natural science.
Southern Vance and North Vance high schools will each be represented in the fall as Justin Williford and Ray Cheever, respectively, will attend the North Carolina School of Science in Mathematics in Durham for the 2013-2014 school year.

The annual Celebrity of the Year Scholarship Fundraiser Dance was conducted by the Badd Boyz and Lady Badd Boyz Social Club on Feb. 23 at the Pride of Vance Elks Lodge. The crowning of the Mr. Valentine and Ms. Sweetheart 2013-14 was the highlight of the evening.
Cameron Leigh Lloyd and Joseph Daryl Cremeens, both of Alexandria, Va., were united in marriage in a ceremony officiated by Dr. Paul A. Baxley of Athens, Ga., on May 18, 2013, at 5 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Henderson.
