Today

Lakeland Theatre Company — “Anne of Green Gables” will be presented today, at 2:30 p.m., Lakeland Cultural Arts Center in Littleton. Tickets are available online at lakelandtheatrenc.org, on Facebook at facebook.com/LakelandTC, or by phone at (252) 586-3124. They are priced at $15 for adults and $8 for students.

Auditions — Auditions for “Magic Carpet Ride: The 60’s Experience” will take place today, at 7 p.m., at Lakeland Theatre Company, 411 Mosby Ave., Littleton. The director is looking for singers, dancers, actors, fire breathers, magicians, etc. This will be a medium ensemble, which will include extra parts for newcomers. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a 60s-era song and perform a cold read from the script. In addition, those wishing to dance should be prepared to follow a short routine. Monday

Board of education — The Granville County Board of Education will meet in regular session today, at 6 p.m., at the Granville County Board of Education Administrative Offices, 101 Delzacroix St., Oxford. Social Services — The Social Services Board will conduct a special called meeting for the purpose of discussing personnel issues today, at 9 a.m., 122 Young St., Henderson.

Tuesday

Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday from 1-3 p.m. in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.

Golf tourney — Vance-Granville Community College will hold its 29th annual Endowment Fund Golf Tournament at Henderson Country Club today at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. For more information, call (252) 738-3409 or email currink@vgcc.edu.

 

Wednesday

Adult fellowship — An adult fellowship group meets every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at the Salvation Army, 355 Alexander Ave., Henderson. Breakfast will be served to attendees on the last Tuesday of the month, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (252) 438-7107.

Class reunion planning — Members of the J.F. Webb High School Class of 1973 have organized a planning committee for their 40th class reunion. The committee will meet in the conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford today at 6 p.m. All classmates are invited to attend.

 

Friday

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

Sunrise Forum — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Sunrise Forum will be today, at 8 a.m., at the Granville County Convention and Expo Center, 4185 N.C. 15-South, Oxford. Granville County manager Brian Alligood and County Commissioners’ chairman Edgar Smoak will present an update on Granville County. The public is invited to attend: a light breakfast (biscuits, fruit, juice and coffee) will be served beforehand.

Small business luncheon — A small business luncheon will take place today, at noon, at Henderson Country Club. This four-county chamber of commerce event will be held to recognize the winners of the Small Business of the Year Awards.

 

Saturday

Cruise in — This month’s installment of Tar River Cruizers’ monthly Cruise Ins is scheduled for today. These events take place on the second Saturday of each month between March and October in the Lowes/Staples parking lot from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Attendees can look forward to old cars, oldies music, good food, door prizes, 50/50 tickets, lots of fun and good fellowship.

Warren County Farmers Market — The Warren County Farmers Market is open today, from 8 a.m.-noon, in the BB&T parking lot, at the corner of East Macon and Bragg streets, in Warrenton.

Strawberry Days — The Strawberry Days crafts bazaar and 5-K road race will take place at the Granville County Recreation Dept. today, from 8-11 a.m. Call (919) 603-1100 for more information.

 

May 13

DAV — The Vance County Chapter 97 of the DAV will meets on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. These meetings take place at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St., Henderson. All members are encouraged to attend.

Genealogical society — The Vance County Genealogical Society will conduct its next meeting today, at 6:30 p.m., at Perry Memorial Library, in the Farm Bureau Room. Mental health plan — The Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets monthly to assist in developing and revising the mental health plan that drives mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services for the five county area. Consumers may attend these meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus, 210 Ridgeway St., Bldg. 4, Room W432, Warrenton.
