Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

Chess fundraiser — Rudy Abate, president of the N.C. Car wash — Troop 372 cadets and seniors will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Advance Auto Parts, 400 Prosperity Drive, Henderson; money raised will support the troop in attending “Sleep with the Sharks” in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Car seat clinic — Free child passenger safety car seat clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Chestnut and Breckenridge streets; sponsored by Safe Kids Henderson-Vance Coalition; purpose is to educate and assist parents in correctly installing child safety seats; for more information contact Lt. Candidates forum — A forum for City Council candidates will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the county commissioners’ room at the Vance County Administrative Building, 122 Young Street; forum will be broadcast live on WIZS-1450 AM and will be available for replay at wizs.com; doors open at 4 p.m.; candidates will meet voters before and after the event; forum will last around 90 minutes.

MONDAY

City Council — The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Book sale volunteers — Volunteers meet every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the City Operations Center on Beckford Drive to unpack and sort books for the Friends of the Perry Memorial Library annual book sale; volunteer work will continue until the sale on Oct. 25-27; those interested in volunteering should report to the Operations Center during volunteer hours; questions should be directed to Pat Newman at (352) 207-5515 or Stevie Saramelli at (252) 430-7271.
