Monday

Chamber — The recognition committee of the Granville County Chamber of Commerce will convene for a meeting in the chamber boardroom at noon.

Board of education — The Granville County Board of Education will meet in Regular Session, today, at 6 p.m. at the Granville County Board of Education Administrative Offices, 101 Delacroix St., Oxford. Citizens may address the Board by signing up beforehand.

Planning board — The Henderson Planning Board will meet in the Henderson City Council Chambers at 3:30 p.m.

Peer support group — The Family Issues Peer Support Group for Adults will conduct its first session at Maria Parham Medical Center - Center for Rehab, 566 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, today from 6-7 p.m. This is a free, open support group to educate and help individuals who are dealing with family challenges by providing resource information and the opportunity for sharing in a supportive environment with peers. Tuesday

Fire department — The Cokesbury Volunteer Fire Dept. will conduct its annual meeting today, at 7:30 p.m. Fire department business will be discussed. All guests are invited to attend.

Chamber — The board of directors of the Granville County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a meeting at Vance-Granville Community College’s south campus at 8 a.m.

Appearance committee — The Henderson Appearance Committee will meet in the Henderson City Council Chambers at 3 p.m.

Lunch & Learn — The next Lunch & Learn session will take place on Vance-Granville Community College’s south campus at noon. Mike McConchie, speaker, will present a program entitled “5 Proven Ways to increase Profits!” Attendees should bring their own meal.

Board of education — The Vance County Board of Education has scheduled a personnel committee meeting for 8:30 a.m.

Ribbon cutting — Torrey’s Flowers, which has relocated to 114 Broad St., Oxford (the site for the former Mike Brummitt Electric), will conduct a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.

 

Thursday

Writers group — The Franklin County Arts Council Night Writers Group meets every second and fourth Thursday night, at 7 p.m., at Full Circle Coffee Shop in Youngsville for critique and discussion of writing.

Granville Health System — There will be a meeting of the quality council at 6 p.m. in the board room.

Community watch — Cobble Stone Community Watch will conduct a meeting today, at 7 p.m., at Greater Ransom Way of the Cross Temple, 90 S. Lake Lodge Road.

Parks and recreation — Henderson-Vance Parks & Recreation Commission will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at noon.

Mental health plan — The Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets monthly to assist in developing and revising the mental health plan that drives mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services for the five county area. Consumers may attend these meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus, 210 Ridgeway St., Building 4, Room W432, Warrenton. Sunrise Forum — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a Sunrise Forum, to take place today, at 8 a.m., in the chamber board room, 124 Hillsboro St., Oxford. Gary Williams, a CPA with Winston, Williams, Creech, Evans & Company, will present a program on taxes.

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

 

Jan. 12

Step show / MLK celebration — Southern Vance High School will host and sponsor its annual “MLK Jr. Holiday Step Show” in the school gym, 925 Garrett Road, Henderson, at 5 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m. Middle and high school step teams from Henderson, Warrenton, Durham, Raleigh, Greensboro, Rocky Mount and Wilson will be featured. Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday from 1-3 p.m. in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.

Board of trustees — The Library Board of Trustees will meet in the Perry Memorial Library Board Room at 5 p.m.

City council — The Henderson City Council will conduct its regular meeting in the Henderson City Council Chambers at 6 p.m.

Chamber of commerce — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce will have an ambassadors meeting at 8 a.m. in the chamber boardroom.

Board of adjustment — The Granville County Board of Adjustment will hold a special-called meeting in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room in the auditorium at the Granville Expo and Convention Center at 4185 U.S. 15 S., Oxford, today, starting at 7 p.m.

 

Jan. 16

Small business seminar — A free seminar, “Tax Requirements for Small Business,” will be conducted today, from 9 a.m.-noon, in Building 7, Room 7107, at Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson. Attendees will receive information to help them understand requirements, important dates, what records should be kept, the actual filing process, triggers for tax audits, and steps toward preventing or surviving an audit.

 

Jan. 17

Banquet & Meeting — The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host its 36th annual Banquet & Meeting at Green Hill Club, beginning at 6 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the “Citizen of the Year” award. Tickets are on sale at the chamber office, 112 East Nash St., Louisburg; or from any chamber director. The cost is $25 per person, which includes dinner and entertainment.
