Online voting — Voting continues today for the Northern Vance High School engineering team, who have entered their Sirocco project into the 2013 Emerging Issues Prize for Innovation contest through North Carolina State University. To vote, visit ncsu.edu/iei/.

Survey continues — Citizens are encouraged to visit the Perry Memorial Library website at perrylibrary.org and click on the survey link in the middle of the page. This survey is being conducted as a part of the development of a new five year plan for library services.

 

Thursday

Business seminar — Al Ware will present a free program, “The 17 Do’s of Starting a Business the Right Way,” in Room W432 on the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus today, from 2-4 p.m. The program was designed for people who have recently started a business or are considering do so. Community watch — Sagefield Development will hold its next community watch meeting today, at 6:30 p.m., at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. Tony Mills, an agent with the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement, will be the guest speaker. All residents are urged to attend.

Five Wishes program — Aaron Klink, chaplain at Community Homecare and Hospice in Henderson, will be presenting a series of three workshops on the Five Wishes Program at the Vance County Senior Center in Henderson. This national program designed to help individuals make their wishes for end of life care known to their loved ones. The first session will take place today at 11 a.m. The other sessions are scheduled for Feb. 14 and 21.

 

Friday

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

Concert series event — The 2012-2013 Allen de Hart Concert Series at Louisburg College continues today, at 7:30 p.m., with an appearance by Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. Doors will open at 7 p.m. All concert events will take place in the Frances Boyette Dickson Auditorium in the college’s Seby B. Jones Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available by calling the box office at (919) 497-3300 or toll-free at 1-866-773-6354; or at the door on the day of show. The box office, in the main lobby, is open Monday-Friday, from 1-5 p.m., as well as one and a half hours before show time.

Deadline — Franklin County will be conducting a Lunch and Learn session Feb. 13, from noon-1 p.m., at Wake Electric, 228 Park Ave., Youngsville. Coach Michael Washington, founder and managing partner of Action coach Business Coaching, will speak on the topic of “Retaining Great Employees.” Attendees will have the opportunity to network and sign in from 11:30-noon. Valentine dance — The Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St., Henderson, has scheduled a Valentine dance for today, from 6-9 p.m. at the center. All seniors are invited. African American History Month — “Visions and Voices,” an African American History Month Saturday Series, will be featured at Warren County Memorial Library, 119 S. Front St., Warrenton, every Saturday, at noon, during the month of February. Rick Russell will present a tribute, “The Legacy of Renown Artist, Ruth Russell Williams,” sharing her life and artistic experiences.

Artist grant workshop — A grant-writing workshop for individuals applying for financial support under the Regional Artist Project Grant program will take place today, from 1-2 p.m., at The Gallery, 233 S. Garnett St., Henderson.

Fundraiser — “Hope for Angel,” a fundraiser for one Angel Reavis, will take place today, from 9 a.m.-until, at Mast Family Drug Center, 5014 S. Chestnut St., Henderson. Bake sale items and Valentine’s Day items will be available for purchase.

Valentine dance — The Warren County Chapter of Warren County Training School-North Warren High School Alumni & Friends Association will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a semi-formal sweetheart dance today, from 7 p.m.-1 a.m., at the campus cafeteria, 430 Paschall Station Road, Wise. Tickets are $10 each: call the office at (252) 456-0076 or 257-5121 to purchase or reserve tickets. The DJ will be Maurice Williams. Raffle Tickets are also being sold at $1 each. Community concert series — Originally scheduled for Jan. 25, the Henderson Community Concert Association presents violinist Ann Fontanella, today at 3 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College civic center auditorium. City council — The Henderson City Council will conduct its regular meeting today at the Henderson City Council Chambers at 6 p.m.

Advisory board — A KLRW Advisory Board meeting will take place in the large conference room at Henderson City Hall today at 9:30 a.m.

Meet-and greet — The second annual Combined County elected Officials Reception, an informal meet-and-greet between area businesses and both elected and non-elected government officials, will be hosted by CenturyLink, 14111 Capital Blvd., Wake Forest, today, from 6-8 p.m. No registration is required to attend this free event. Officials from Franklin, Wake, Granville and Vance counties are welcome.

Quilting quild — The February meeting of the local quilt guild, Vance Quilts ‘R Us, will take place in the dining room of the Senior Citizen’s Center on Garnett Street in Henderson. A social will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting proper at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to both quilters and anyone interested in learning about it.

 

Tuesday

Mental health plan — The Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets monthly to assist in developing and revising the mental health plan that drives mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services for the five county area. Consumers may attend these meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus, 210 W. Ridgeway St., Building 4, Room W432, Warrenton. Consumers can sign up to discuss issues from 6:15-6:30 p.m. For more information, call (252) 430-1330, ext. 3025 or 3050.

Appearance committee — The Henderson Appearance Committee will meet today at the Henderson City Council Chambers at 3 p.m.
