Appearance commission — The Henderson Appearance Commission will meet at 3 p.m. in the Henderson City Council Chambers at the City Municipal Building, 134 Rose Ave., Henderson.

Henderson York Rite Bodies — The Henderson York Rite Bodies meet today at the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229, 401 Brodie Road, in Henderson. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. All York Rite Masons are invited to attend. The monthly meeting is conducted on the second Tuesday of each month.

Royal Palace Theatre — Joyce DeWitt of TV’s Three’s Company will play a Waffle House waitress in the Christmas musical comedy, “A Scattered, Smothered & Covered Christmas,” for four performances at the Royal Palace Theatre on I-95 in Roanoke Rapids. Peanut Roaster sale — Volunteer services at Maria Parham Medical Center will conduct its December sale today, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., in the John T. Church classroom. Items for sale will include peanuts, cashews, chocolates, gift tins and gift baskets.

Recreation commission — The Henderson Recreation Commission will meet at noon.

Writer’s group — The Franklin County Arts Council Night Writers Group meets every second and fourth Thursday night, at 7 p.m., at Full Circle Coffee Shop in Youngsville for critique and discussion of writing.

Christmas social — The fifth annual Chamber Christmas Social, for chamber members only, will be held today, from 6-8 p.m. at the Henderson Country Club. All members and their employees will need to RSVP to rsvp@hendersonvance.org in order to attend.

Mental health services — The Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets monthly to assist in developing and revising the mental health plan that drives mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse services for the five county area. Consumers are invited to attend these meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus, 210 W. Miracle League — Country music artist Jason Michael Carroll will be visiting with the winning class of Franklinton High School’s Penny War today, starting at 10:50 a.m. A pizza party will be held for the class, which raised $3,900 in less than three weeks to help purchase a new mascot for The Miracle League of Franklin County.

Miracle League — Board members with The Miracle League of Franklin County will meet behind Long Mill Elementary School to view the construction of Phase 1.

Seasonal flu clinics — Granville-Vance District Health Departments will conduct flu clinics on Friday afternoons, from 1-4 p.m. The cost of the flu vaccine is $35, or $55 for the higher dose flu vaccine recommended by the Centers or Disease Control and Prevention to provide better protection to individuals 65 years of age and older. Medicare Part B (red, white, and blue card) and Medicaid, as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield and Wellpath will be accepted for immunizations. Attendees should bring their insurance card, and wear short sleeves so that clinic personnel may serve the public as efficiently as possible. Those individuals with private Medicare, such as Humana or Premier, will need to go to their primary care doctor because those providers will not reimburse the department. Some children ages six months through 18 years of age may qualify to receive the flu vaccine at no cost. The health department will also be offering the pneumonia vaccine to those who are over age 65, and to those under age 65 who have chronic illnesses. The cost of the pneumonia vaccine is $95.

Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday from 1-3 p.m. in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.
