TODAY

Shrine Club — The Henderson Shrine Club, which regularly meets the first Thursday of every month, will not meet in observance of Independence Day.

 

FRIDAY

Wise Parade — Wise will hold Independence Day celebrations starting with a 10 a.m. parade; a festival and free concert from Randy Cook and the Commonwealth Bluegrass Band will immediately follow the parade; there will be homemade ice cream and pork barbecue; for more information, call (252) 432-5307.

Weight loss group — TOWN ( Take Off Weight Now ), a nonprofit weight loss group, meets at 11:30 a.m. at Aycock Recreation Center.

American Legion — The American Legion Post No. 60, which normally meets on the first Friday of every month, has postponed its monthly meeting to July 11.

SATURDAY

Kerr Lake — The Independence Day Weekend Celebration at Kerr Lake will begin at 6:30 p.m at Satterwhite Point Park; the Sand Band will provide music; the event will include food vendors and a fireworks display after dark; the event is free and is sponsored by the Vance County Tourism Department; for more information, call the department at (252) 438-2222.

Lake Holt — The annual fireworks celebration at Lake Hold will begin at 6 p.m.; all attending must be through the gates by 8:45 p.m.; fireworks will begin at dark; the event will include concessions and a DJ; in the event of major rain, the show will be held July 6.

Thornton Library — Billy Yeargin will give a noon lecture entitled “Robert E. Lee in the Autumn of His Life”; the lecture is free and open to the public.

Knitting club — The knitting club at Perry Memorial Library meets from 1-3 p.m. in the board room; knitting, crocheting and other crafts involving strings and yarn; free program, public welcome to work on their crafts or to come and learn.

 

TUESDAY
