Men on the Move — Today, at noon, there will be a Men on the Move meeting at Thorndale Country Club, Oxford. A buffet lunch will be served. The cost is $7.95, plus beverage or seniors for $5.95 plus beverage. Each participant will pay for their own lunch. Women’s luncheon and expo — The “Success Becomes Her” luncheon and expo will take place today, from noon-2 p.m., in the civic center at Vance-Granville Community College. Alive After Five — In its 10th year, the Granville County Chamber of Commerce presents Alive After Five today, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Opening the series this year will be The Craig Woolard Band, who will perform in the parking lot at Main and Littlejohn streets in Oxford. Warren County Farmers Market — The Warren County Farmers Market is open today, from 8 a.m.-noon, in the BB&T parking lot, at the corner of East Macon and Bragg streets, in Warrenton.

Memorial Day observance — A wreath laying ceremony, in honor of Memorial Day, will take place today, at 10 a.m., at Gazebo Park on Central Avenue (between D and E streets, which will be closed to traffic), Butner. This family event will include military vehicles on display, favors for children, live music and more.

 

Tuesday

Adult fellowship — An adult fellowship group meets every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at the Salvation Army, 355 Alexander Ave., Henderson. Breakfast will be served to attendees on the last Tuesday of the month, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (252) 438-7107.

Board of commissioners — The Granville County Board of Commissioners will meet today, at 7 p.m., in the meeting room at the Granville Expo and Convention Center, 4185 N.C. 15 South, Oxford. The purpose of the special meeting is for a budget workshop to continue budget deliberations.

NAACP — The Vance County NAACP will conduct its monthly meeting today, at 7 p.m., at Gateway Community Development Center on Garnett Street in Henderson. The youth session will take place beforehand, from 6-6:45 p.m.

Small business luncheon — A small business luncheon will take place today, at noon, at Henderson Country Club. This four-county chamber of commerce event will be held to recognize the winners of the Small Business of the Year Awards.

Meet Me in the Street — The second concert in this year’s Meet Me in the Street series of concerts will take place today, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., in downtown Henderson. Steve Owens and the Summertime Band will be performing.

Business After Hours — Kim Jordan will host the next Granville County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event today, from 5-6:30 p.m., at Citizens Community Bank on Main Street in Oxford.

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

 

June 1

Music jam/open mic — Franklin County Arts Council Student Arts Council will be hosting a music jam and open mic every first Saturday at Common Grounds Coffee House in Bunn. Everyone — experienced and novice, young and old — are invited to bring their instruments and voices. Open mic will be available for poets and spoken word artists as well. Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday, from 1-3 p.m., in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.
