Today

Cherry Hill — Warren County’s historic Cherry Hill will present its third and final spring concert of the 2013 season Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m. A preserved mid-19th Century plantation home, Cherry Hill is located on N.C. 58 in the Warren County community of Inez. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and children under 12 are free. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, visit cherryhillconcerts.com.

United Daughters of the Confederacy — The Vance County Chapter No. 142 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will conduct a memorial service at the Confederate Cemetery today at 2 p.m.

Lakeland Theatre Company — Lakeland Theatre’s production of “A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking” concludes today, with a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. Monday

Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday, from 1-3 p.m., in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.

Board of directors — The Vance Charter School Board of Directors will meet today, at 7 p.m., in the media center at the school.

Genealogical society — The Vance County Genealogical Society 1881 will hold its monthly meeting today, at 6:30 p.m., at the Perry Memorial Library. The program “Searching For Our Relatives In Wales” will be presented by Joanne Carpenter. The public is invited to attend.

South Council — The South Council will meet today, at noon, at Bob’s BBQ. Kevin Otis, the new administrator at the Masonic Home For Children, will be the guest speaker.

Estate planning workshop — The public is invited to attend The Gift of Love: Estate Planning 101 workshop today, from 2-4 p.m., at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford, which is handicapped accessible. Joan Reid, Granville County Extension agent, will explain the purpose of the documents and how to complete them. Each participant will receive information and a 5 Wishes document. Tuesday

Masonic lodge — The Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 meets on the third Tuesday of the month at the lodge, 401 Brodie Road, in Henderson. A meal is served before each lodge meeting at 6 p.m., followed by the Stated Communication at 7 p.m. All lodge members and visiting Master Masons are invited to attend. The monthly meeting is conducted on the third Tuesday of each month.

Adult fellowship — An adult fellowship group meets every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at the Salvation Army, 355 Alexander Ave., Henderson. Breakfast will be served to attendees on the last Tuesday of the month, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (252) 438-7107.

Community watch — The West End Community Watch Group will have its next meeting today, at 6:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall of West End Baptist Church. The speaker for the evening will be Tony Mills, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent.

Ambassador meeting — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce will conduct an ambassador meeting today, at 8 a.m., in the chamber boardroom, 124 Hillsboro St., Oxford.

Board of elections — The Vance County Board of Elections will meet today, at 4 p.m., in the Board of Elections office located at 300 S. Garnett St., Henderson, in the Henry A. Dennis Building.

4-H classes (registration) — Vance County 4-H is now taking registration for classes at 305 Young St., Henderson. New this year is the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Hunter Safety Certification Class for ages 12-18. Stroke risk screenings — Maria Parham Medical Center and the North Carolina Stroke Association have organized a free stroke risk screening, which will take place in the John T. Church Classroom at the hospital today, from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Appointments are mandatory for participation. Men on the Move — Today, at noon, there will be a Men on the Move meeting at Thorndale Country Club, Oxford. A buffet lunch will be served. The cost is $7.95, plus beverage or seniors for $5.95 plus beverage. Each participant will pay for their own lunch. Women’s luncheon and expo — The “Success Becomes Her” luncheon and expo will take place today, from noon-2 p.m., in the civic center at Vance-Granville Community College. Memorial Day observance — A wreath laying ceremony, in honor of Memorial Day, will take place today, at 10 a.m., at Gazebo Park on Central Avenue (between D and E streets, which will be closed to traffic), Butner. This family event will include military vehicles on display, favors for children, live music and more.
