TODAY

Girls on the Run — The Girls on The Run of Northern North Carolina Spring 5k begins at 9 a.m. in downtown Oxford in front of the D.N. Hix gymnasium on Spring Street; for registration fees and payment information, call (252) 438-2144.

Club 15 — Club 15 will hold its fourth annual Community Day from noon to 5 p.m. at Aycock Recreation Center; there will be food, drinks, games, crafts, live entertainment and more; the event is open to the public.

Confederate Soldiers — A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery to honor Confederate soldiers buried there; the service is open to the public; a second service will take place at 2 p.m. at the Confederate cemetery in Kittrell, sponsored by the Vance County Chapter No. 142 UDC in Henderson, the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club and the Lt. John T. Bullock SCU Camp No. 2205 in Stem.

Food Drive — Letter carriers in Vance County will collect diapers, dry goods and canned foods today along their routes to donate to area agencies that provide help for the needy; those wishing to support the drive should place items beside their mailbox prior to their carrier’s normal delivery time.

 

MONDAY

Knitting club — The knitting club at Perry Memorial Library meets from 1-3 p.m. in the board room; knitting, crocheting and other crafts involving strings and yarn; free program, public welcome to work on their crafts or to come and learn.

DAV — Chapter 97 of Disabled American Veterans, consisting of Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties, meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St.; all members are encouraged to attend.

Beekeepers Association — The Kerr-Tar Beekeepers Association meets at 7 p.m. at the Vance County Cooperative Extension Office, 305 Young Street, Henderson; the meeting is open to the public.
