Sunrise Forum — A Sunrise Forum will be held at 8 a.m. at the Granville County Convention Center in Oxford; Mike Felts, manager of Granville County, will speak; a light breakfast will be offered.



Girls on the Run — The Girls on The Run of Northern North Carolina Spring 5k begins at 9 a.m. in downtown Oxford in front of the D.N. Hix gymnasium on Spring Street; for registration fees and payment information, call (252) 438-2144.

Club 15 — Club 15 will hold its fourth annual Community Day from noon to 5 p.m. at Aycock Recreation Center; there will be food, drinks, games, crafts, live entertainment and more; the event is open to the public.

Confederate Soldiers — A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery to honor Confederate soldiers buried there; the service is open to the public; a second service will take place at 2 p.m. at the Confederate cemetery in Kittrell.

Food Drive — Letter carriers in Vance County will collect diapers, dry goods and canned foods today along their routes to donate to area agencies that provide help for the needy; those wishing to support the drive should place items beside their mailbox prior to their carrier’s normal delivery time.



Knitting club — The knitting club at Perry Memorial Library meets from 1-3 p.m. in the board room; knitting, crocheting and other crafts involving strings and yarn; free program, public welcome to work on their crafts or to come and learn.

DAV — Chapter 97 of Disabled American Veterans, consisting of Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties, meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St.; all members are encouraged to attend.

Beekeepers Association — The Kerr-Tar Beekeepers Association meets at 7 p.m. at the Vance County Cooperative Extension Office, 305 Young Street, Henderson; the meeting is open to the public.

Masonic Lodge — Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249 meets at 7 p.m. at 1204 W. Andrews Ave. for regular communication on the second Monday of every month; members should wear Masonic dress; for more information, call (252) 915-9391.

Genealogical Society — The Vance County Genealogical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Farm Bureau Room at Perry Memorial Library; John Wester will present a program on Brekenridge Commons, which will consist of the library and the performing arts center McGregor Hall; the meeting is open to the public.

Quilts ’R Us — Vance Quilts ’R Us meets at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church Annex, 222 Young St., Henderson; the business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.; the speaker will be Joshua Craig, the programming and marketing coordinator at the Pocosin Arts Handcraft Education Center in Columbia.

Board of Education — The Vance County Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in the Administrative Services Center Board Room 1724 Graham Ave., Henderson.



Mental health plan — The Cardinal Innovations/Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m., at the Warren County campus of Vance-Granville Community College, 210 Ridgeway St., Bldg. 4, Room W432, Warrenton; consumers may attend and sign up to discuss issues from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m.; for more information, call (252) 430-1330, ext. 3025 or 3050.

Crime Prevention — The Vance County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council meets at 8:30 a.m. at Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson; the Vance Gang Awareness Partnership, a sub-committee of the council, meets immediately after.

Zumba — A Zumbathon charity event for Relay for Life is from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at ZG With Rosemarie, 1366 N. Garnett St., Henderson; there is no fee for admission; donations will be accepted; all proceeds will benefit Team Addie’s Fight.


MAY 17

Henderson Institute — The Henderson Institute Class of 1964 meets at 1 p.m. at the Henderson Institute Museum on Rock Spring Street.

Microchip Clinic — A microchip clinic sponsored by the Humane Society of Granville County is from 1 to 4 p.m. at Southern States in Oxford; microchips are $20 each, including lifetime registration.

Walkathon — A walkathon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will begin at 9 a.m. at the Warren County Armory Civic Center in Warrenton; registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; the registration fee is $10; for more information contact Mary Dunson at (252) 257-3206.
