Today

Ribbon cutting — The Nail Spa, 700 Hillsboro St., Oxford, will conduct a ribbon cutting today at 2 p.m.

 

Monday

South Council — Bob’s Barbecue, 1589 N.C. 56, Creedmoor, will be the site for a meeting of the South Council today at noon. Faicia Elliott will present the program, an update on this year’s Granville County Relay for Life. A dutch treat lunch will be served.

Board of directors — The Vance Charter School Board of Directors will meet today, at 7 p.m., in the media center at the school.

Workshop — A crisis response and management workshop will take place today, at 9 a.m., at Aycock Recreation Center, 307 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson. Wanda Brock, MS, mobile crisis coordinator at Holly Hill Hospital, will conduct the session.

Genealogical society — The Vance County Genealogical Society 1881 will hold its monthly meeting today, starting at 6:30 p.m., at Perry Memorial Library, Henderson. The program, the Duke Family of Epsom (part 2), will be presented by Joyce Duke, society president. Society members and guests are invited to attend.

 

Tuesday

Masonic lodge — The Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 meets on the third Tuesday of the month at the lodge, 401 Brodie Road, in Henderson. A meal is served before each lodge meeting at 6 p.m., followed by the Stated Communication at 7 p.m. All lodge members and visiting Master Masons are invited to attend. The monthly meeting is conducted on the third Tuesday of each month.

Community watch — The West End Community Watch group will meet today, at 6;30 p.m., at West End Baptist Church. The speakers for the evening will be Bob and Sylvia Esquivel. They will discuss their recent trip to Belize.

Spaghetti supper — Boy Scout Troop No. 605 will conduct a spaghetti supper today, from 5-7:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church, 222 Young St., Henderson. Meals are $7 per plate. Proceeds will fund the troop’s summer camp trip to Virginia.

Board of elections — The Vance County Board of Elections will meet today, at 4 p.m., in the Vance County Board of Elections office, located in the Henry A. Dennis Building, 300 S. Garnett St., Henderson.

Adult fellowship — And adult fellowship group meets every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at the Salvation Army store on Alexander Avenue. Small business classes — Instructor Mike Collins will teach a pair of free classes today in Room 7104 of Bldg. 7 (the Small Business Center) on the main campus of Vance-Granville Community College, 200 Community College Road, Henderson. First, from 9 a.m.-noon, he will discuss how to create a desirable workday during a seminar entitled “Getting It All Done: Time Management for Small Business Owners.” Then, from 6-9 p.m., he will talk about more than 30 types of businesses with growth potential during a class called “Best Businesses to Start Now.”

 

Wednesday

Tupperware sale — Volunteer Services of Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson will be hosting a Tupperware Sale today, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m., in the J. T. Church Classroom at the hospital. This is day one of a two-day event.

 

Thursday

Public hearing — A public hearing will be conducted today, at 6 p.m., in the Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunity  Administrative Building, 180 S. Beckford Drive, Henderson, by the Board of Directors. All interested citizens are invited to give their input in regards to the annual public housing plan at this time.

Board of adjustment — The Vance County Board of Adjustment will meet today, at 4 p.m., in the Vance County Board of Commissioners meeting room at 122 Young St., Henderson.

Tupperware sale — Volunteer Services of Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson will be hosting a Tupperware Sale today, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m., in the J. T. Church Classroom at the hospital. This is day two of a two-day event.

AARP — The Vance County Senior Center will host an AARP meeting today at 2 p.m.

Social services board — The Social Services Board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on today, at 8 a.m., in the director’s office at the Vance County Department of Social Services, 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson.

Women’s club — The Henderson business and Professional Women’s Club will conduct its regular monthly dinner meeting today, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson. New members and guests are invited to attend. Call (252) 438-6732 to make reservations.

Planning for class reunion — Members of the J.F. Webb High School Class of 1973 have organized a planning committee for its 40th class reunion. The committee will meet in the conference room at Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford today at 6 p.m. All classmates are invited to attend.

Human relations — The Henderson Human Relations Commission will meet today, at 7 p.m., in the Henderson City Council Chambers.

Community watch — Kittrell Community Watch will meet today, at 7 p.m., at the Kittrell Community House (across the street from the fire station. Tony Mills, a special agent with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, will discuss security issues, including home invasions. Attendees can expect door prizes and light refreshments. Those interested in neighborhood security is welcome to attend, particularly newcomers.

Community watch — The West Hills, West Creek, U.S. 158 Bypass Community Watch will be having its monthly meeting in the auditorium at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson today at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Vance County Sheriff Peter White. All neighbors are encouraged to attend.

Crime prevention — The Vance County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council will meet today, at 8:30 a.m., at Aycock Recreation Center, 317 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson. The Graduated Responses and Rewards Committee will meet following the regular council meeting.

 

Friday

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

 

March 25

Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday from 1-3 p.m. in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.

Breastfeeding class — Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson will offer a free breastfeeding class today in the John T. Church Classroom of the hospital, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Expectant moms are encouraged to attend and bring their support person. Classes are taught by a certified lactation consultant. Call (252) 436-1881 to register. There will be no charge for this class.
