Meet in the Street — A Meet Me in the Street concert, featuring Steve Owens and Summertime, is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Henderson; the concert is free and open to the public.

Social Services — The Social Services Board in Vance County will hold a called meeting at 8 a.m. in the director’s office at the Vance County Department of Social Services; 350 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson.

 

FRIDAY

Weight loss group — TOWN ( Take Off Weight Now ), a nonprofit weight loss group, meets at 11:30 a.m. at Aycock Recreation Center.

 

SATURDAY

Kerr-Vance Academy — The Kerr-Vance Academy graduation ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in the school gymnasium.

Strawberry Festival — The Strawberry Jam Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Oxford; there will be live music, arts, crafts, food trucks, inflatables and more.

Clothing Giveaway — A clothing giveaway will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rowland Christian Church; free clothing will be available for all ages and genders; the giveaway is open to the public.

 

SUNDAY

Charity Ride — The 17th annual motorcycle charity ride for Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center held by Brewer Cycles will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m.; sign up will begin at 10 a.m. at Brewer Cycles; the ride will be followed by a barbecue chicken dinner; tickets are $25; for more information or to purchase tickets in advance call (252) 492-8553.

 

TUESDAY

Kiwanis Club — The Henderson Kiwanis Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the patio behind the student union on the Vance-Granville Community College main campus; there will be a catered meal and homemade ice cream; the meeting is open to members and their guests.

American Legion — The American Legion Post No. 60 meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Legion Hut; all members requested to attend.

TRIAD — The TRIAD Chapter meets at 11 a.m. at the Henderson Institute Historical Museum on Rock Spring Street; officers will be nominated and installed; any member in good standing can be nominated for office at the meeting.

 

JUNE 9

DAV — Chapter 97 of Disabled American Veterans, consisting of Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties, meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett Street; all members are encouraged to attend.

Beekeepers Association — The Kerr-Tar Beekeepers Association meets at 7 p.m. at the Vance County Cooperative Extension Office, 305 Young Street, Henderson; the meeting is open to the public.

Masonic Lodge — Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249 meets at 7 p.m. at 1204 West Andrews Ave. for regular communication on the second Monday of every month; members should wear Masonic dress; for more information, call (252) 915-9391.

Knitting club — The knitting club at Perry Memorial Library meets from 1-3 p.m. in the board room; knitting, crocheting and other crafts involving strings and yarn; free program; open to the public to work on crafts or to attend and learn.

Community Watch — The White Oak-Lakeview Community Watch group meets at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Flowers Funeral Home in Henderson; Tom Spain of the Kerr Lake Regional Water Treatment Plant will be the speaker.

Genealogical Society — The Vance County Genealogical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Williamsboro; the Rev. Don Lowery of The Church of the Holy Innocents will present a program on the history of the church; the meeting is open to the public.
