Today

Adult fellowship — An adult fellowship group meets every Tuesday, at 10 a.m., at the Salvation Army, 355 Alexander Ave., Henderson. Breakfast will be served to attendees on the last Tuesday of the month, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call (252) 438-7107.

Board of education — The Vance County Board of Education Personnel Committee will meet today, at 8:30 a.m., in the Superintendent’s Conference Room.

Board of elections — The Vance County Board of Elections will meet today, at 4 p.m., in the board of elections office located in the Henry A. Dennis Building, 300 S. Garnett St., Henderson.

Community watch — The Fernwood-Fairway Community Watch will meet today, at 7 p.m., at Henderson Country Club. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Property owners’ association — The Fernwood Property Owners’ Association will meet today, at 6:30 p.m., prior to the community watch meeting at Henderson Country Club. All property owners are encouraged to attend.

Kiwanis club — The Kiwanis Club of Henderson will meet at Vance-Granville Community College for its annual outing today at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will consist of fish, shrimp and chicken (with all the fixings) and homemade ice cream for. Wednesday

Construction Industry workshop — The N.C. Department of Labor is offering a 10-Hour Construction Industry Awareness Course today-Thursday in Winston-Salem. Meet and Greet — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is inviting representatives of businesses and organizations to attend at “Navigating the Chamber” Meet and Greet today, at 4 p.m., in Room 134 on the south campus of Vance-Granville Community College. The topic of the presentation will be “Getting the Most Out of Your Membership Investment!” Attendees should bring business cards/brochures/events flyers or other items to share. RSVPs must be in by this morning.

Social Services Board — The Social Services Board will conduct a called meeting
today, at 8:30 a.m., at 122 Young St., Henderson, for the purpose of discussing personnel matters.

 

Thursday

Henderson Shrine Club — The Henderson Shrine Club conducts its monthly meeting on the first Thursday of every month at the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229, 401 Brodie Road, in Henderson. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. All members and visiting nobles are invited to attend.

Chess club — The Henderson/Vance Chess Club, affiliated with the U.S. Chess Federation, meets at First United Methodist Church each Thursday from 6-9:30 p.m. All are welcome, adults and youths, novice or experienced. Senior Democrats — Today, at 1 p.m., the Warren County Senior Democrats will meet at the Warren County Senior Center, 435 W. Franklin St., Warrenton. Reports on the District Convention and what’s happening in Raleigh are on the agenda. The Senior Democrats meet at the center on the first Thursday of each month. All Democrats, of any age, are welcome to attend.

Weight loss group — TOWN (Take Off Weight Now), a non-profit weight loss group, will meet at Aycock Recreation Center at 11:30 a.m.

American Legion — The American Legion Post No. 60 meets regularly on the first Friday of the month, at 6:30 p.m., in the Legion Hut. All members are requested to attend.

Cruise in — This month’s installment of Tar River Cruizers’ monthly Cruise Ins is scheduled for today. These events take place on the second Saturday of each month between March and October in the Lowes/Staples parking lot from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Attendees can look forward to old cars, oldies music, good food, door prizes, 50/50 tickets, lots of fun and good fellowship.

Warren County Farmers Market — The Warren County Farmers Market is open today, from 8 a.m.-noon, in the BB&T parking lot, at the corner of East Macon and Bragg streets, in Warrenton.

Lake Gaston Association —  The annual Lake Gaston Association membership meeting will take place today, at 9:30 a.m., at Lake Gaston Baptist Church, on VA 903 (across from Subway Restaurant). DAV — The Vance County Chapter 97 of the DAV will meets on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. These meetings take place at the Vance County Senior Center, 126 S. Garnett St., Henderson. All members are encouraged to attend.

Community watch — The White Oak Drive/Lakeview Drive Community Watch meeting for June will take place today, at 6:30 p.m., in the chapel at Flowers Funeral Home on Oxford Road in Henderson. Dave Ahner of Ahner Securities will speaker.

Fishing rodeo — Registration is now open for 4-H Fishing Rodeo I for children (ages 8-14), which will be held today, from 9 a.m.-noon. For $6, children will learn basic fishing skills and safety, and fish identification. Rods and bait will be provided. Come to 305 Young St., Henderson, to fill out enrollment forms and pay an additional $2 insurance fee prior to today.

Mental health plan — The Cardinal Innovations/Five County Community Operations Center’s Consumer and Family Advisory Committee meets monthly to assist in developing and revising the mental health plan that drives mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services for the five county area. Consumers may attend these meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Vance-Granville Community College Warren campus, 210 Ridgeway St., Bldg. 4, Room W432, Warrenton. Knitting club — Perry Memorial Library is now offering a place every other Monday, from 1-3 p.m., in the board room for knitting, crocheting, and other “crafts involving strings and yarn.” This is a free program, sponsored by the library. The public is welcome to work on their own crafts or to simply come and learn.
