TODAY

Kiwanis Club — The Henderson Kiwanis Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at Golden Corral Restaurant in Henderson; Tonya Evans, district manager of Duke Energy, will speak about the Duke Energy Solar Strategy; the meeting is open to all members and their guests.

Henderson/Vance Night Out — The Henderson/Vance Night Out Against Crime will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Breckenridge Street between the Henderson Police Department and Perry Library; free drinks, hot dogs and T-shirts while supplies last; presentations and displays by the Henderson Police Department, Vance County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson Fire Department, Vance County Emergency Services, N.C. Highway Patrol, Vance County Schools and other groups working with the community to prevent crime and promote safety.

 

WEDNESDAY

Farmers Market — The Vance County Regional Farmers Market, located off Beckford Drive behind the Kidney Dialysis Center, is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; for more information and to register as a vendor, contact Tracy Madigan at (252) 438-8188.

Warrenton Lions — The Warrenton Lions Club will hold a barbecue chicken plate sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Warrenton Lions Den; plates are $8 eat in or take out and include chicken, string beans, buttered potatoes, bread and barbecue sauce; proceeds from the event will be used for the club’s community projects.

Movie night — The Lego Movie will be shown at South Branch Library, 1550 S. Campus Drive, Creedmoor; show time is at 1:30p.m.; free popcorn, but bring your own beverage.

 

THURSDAY

Shrine Club — The Henderson Shrine Club meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Dick Yancey Building, 210 Industry Drive, Henderson; this is a joint meeting with the Granville County Shrine Club; dinner will be served; the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.; the event is open to members and visiting nobles.

Genealogical Society — The Granville County Genealogical Society meets at 6:30 p.m. in the large conference room at Thornton Library in Oxford; Raleigh attorney Gene Boyce will discuss his experiences in Washington, D.C., as an assistant majority counsel for the U.S. Senate Watergate Committee during its television hearings in 1973; the meeting is open to the public.

Art stroll — Franklin County Arts Council will hold its Art Stroll from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Franklinton; featuring the annual photography show with awards to color and black and white divisions and best in show) plus music; quilt trail and Student Arts Council on the patio at Johnny’s on Main.

African safari — A program on African safari will be held at 6:30 p.m. at South Branch Library, 1550 S. Campus Drive, Creedmoor; come spend the evening on safari with Mary Ann and Don Moore Jr. as seen through the eyes of their camera; free and open to the public.

 

FRIDAY

Weight loss group — TOWN ( Take Off Weight Now ), a nonprofit weight loss group, meets at 11:30 a.m. at Aycock Recreation Center.

Imagination Library — Children will be enrolled n the Dolly Parton Imagination Library from noon to 5 p.m. at Perry Memorial Library; children can be enrolled up to age 5; through the program children will receive one free book per month.

Beekeepers Association — The Kerr-Tar Beekeepers Association meets at 7 p.m. at the Vance County Cooperative Extension Office, 305 Young Street, Henderson; the meeting is open to the public.
