Man shot, woman robbed in separate Sunday incidents
Three armed robbery reports over the weekend in the Henderson area included two that targeted vehicle operators about the same time Sunday evening, including one in which a man was shot.
The condition of the gunshot victim is not known. A sheriff’s office report called it a “major injury.”
The two incidents Sunday evening were in close proximity, one at the parking lot of Food Lion on North Garnett Street in the Henderson police jurisdiction, and the other on Glenn Avenue in Vance County Sheriff’s office jurisdiction.
Police are also investigating an armed robbery at the Dabney Drive Cruizers at 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
Requests by The Dispatch for further information from police and the sheriff’s office have not been returned.
The incidents come on the heels of a Henderson teenager shot to death last Thursday, two people shot and killed at a motel Feb. 16, and four carjackings since Jan. 24, including two involving sexual assaults on women.
Last Thursday’s homicide was the third teenager to be shot to death in eight months in the city.
At the Food Lion Sunday evening, a 23-year-old female was the victim. The call was reported at 7:35 p.m., saying she was being robbed in the parking lot at 1650 North Garnett Street.
A Henderson Police Department incident report noted no injury to the woman, but her $200 Sprint Echo cellphone was listed as taken. A white 2000 Honda Accord included in the report was not noted as taken.
The report stated the woman was the victim of two completed crimes, a robbery and an unstated second offense.
Also noted in a Vance County Sheriff’s Office incident report as occurring at 7:35 p.m. Sunday and called in two minutes later, was the theft of a gold 2000 Dodge Durango on Glenn Avenue.
Deputies reported that one or more assailants forced a 44-year-old man out of the Durango, shot him and then left him in the roadway near 211 Glenn Avenue.
The report indicated he suffered major injury. There was no report on his condition early Monday morning.
Maps show Glenn Avenue linking to the north side of the Food Lion parking lot, leading eastward behind the Food Lion area before crossing the city line.
At 2:15 a.m., Saturday morning, more than one assailant held up a 54-year-old man and a female employee of the Cruizers at 800 Dabney Drive, according to a police incident report.
Officers noted that one of the assailants used a shotgun, and an unstated amount of cash was taken from the store and the 54-year-old man.
